Nowhere does fall foliage like Connecticut, so it’s little surprise that from around mid September until the end of October thousands of people make the trip, almost like a pilgrimage, to see the vivid and vibrant colors. It can get pretty busy on the roads around Connecticut in the fall, especially during the weekends so if you fancy a more leisurely trip with less traffic it’s better to visit mid week if possible. Some of the best scenery is actually found off the beaten track so to speak, so it’s also a good idea to take some of the back-roads, pull on your hiking boots, pump up your bicycle tires or find some other way to take in the sheer splendor of color in Connecticut. -

Who says hiking is only for warmer weather? In Connecticut, the winter season only enhances the adventure, and many scenic trails sparkle in the bright sun under a light cover of snow. When the urge to get out and about takes over this winter, get out on foot, strap on your snowshoes or hop on the snowmobile and head to one of these Connecticut State Parks: -

Smart. Historic. Sophisticated and X-hilarating. That’s how you can describe the feeling of Greater New Haven. It’s smart, the home of Yale University, an academic institution that needs no introduction. It’s historic, early America is so close to the surface here you can touch it, in the cold stone of a 17th century home or the port where the Amistad, a cargo ship famously taken over by its African captives, sought refuge in 1839. It’s sophisticated, welcome to an arts destination with truly international star power. A visitor wandering through downtown New Haven will brush up against more intelligence, history and culture than in cities many times the size. -

Home to the tall ships of Mystic Seaport and New England’s only beluga whales at Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration, the town of Mystic exudes New England charm. Shop one-of-a-kind shops downtown (with its landmark Bascule Bridge) or at the quaint Olde Mistick Village. Linger over candlelight and an after-dinner drink at one of our cool eateries. You can even cozy up in the mansion where Bogie and Bacall honeymooned.
